Bio style: Nordstrom finally goes organic


InstyleGreen is proud to report that US-retailer Nordstrom has finally begun to embrace organic fashion. The Ca-based company is blending in organic cotton into some of their namesake brands while buying new brands that include sustainable fibers. The range cannot be characterized as expansive, but it does include one of our new favorites, Viridis Luxe, whose sustainable cashmere hemp knits are seen above.


Green Halloween costumes: Scare your neigborhood the Non-toxic-way

As according to Treehugger.com one hapless television news crew discovered, store-bought Halloween costumes frequently contain a boatload of carcinogens and reproductive toxins such as lead, cadmium, and pthalates, particularly those made from PVC or vinyl. Even the PVC packaging most costumes come embalmed in can leave phthalate residues on their surfaces.

You should also be wary of store-bought face paints and Halloween makeup that are not only derived from petroleum, but may also contain parabens, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), formaldehyde, lead, and other potential and probable cancer-causing agents. Read the rest of this entry »

IPATH: Green boots are made for walking


Shoes are to environmentally conscious people the equivalent of what blood transfusions are to Mormons: sure, your beliefs run deep, but when your health is a stake, all of a sudden the choice appears clearer. I mean, no one would go hiking wearing a pair of jute-and-canvas sandals, right? Or even take a walk on a broken-glass, discarded-syringe, dog-crap infested sidewalk, for that matter.
