Virgin Atlantic will today fly one of its Boeing 747 jumbo jets on biofuel from London Heathrow to Amsterdam — becoming the first airline in the world to fly on renewable fuel. The “Air Car”: Ecologically Pure and Less Costly

car-runs-on-compressed-airSince we’re talking a lot about alternative technology and going ‘green’, I guess a car that runs on air will definitely be a worthy addition. A former Formula 1 engineer, Guy Negre, has capped his more than a decade of research and hard work with a car that will run on compressed air.

The “Air Car” has gained a lot of criticisms lately that it won’t appeal to the masses and it doesn’t have much power. But a car that runs without fuel deserves to be noticed. It may not be speedy but in most Asian countries where speed is not important because of the bad traffic, I think the Air Car could be a perfect alternative. Read the rest of this entry »

FuelPod2: Use your slacky, gooey oil to get biodiesel

So you’ve attended tons and tons of seminars on re-using waste, but they were nothing more than B-School mandatory torture right? It’s all good when they talk about it, but when you actually got to come down to doing it, it’s not until you hit an MIT website that you realize it’s actually possible to do it from the comfort of your home.
What we have here is something that’ll give you reason enough to smile, and pride enough to join planet saving programmes having something of your own to talk about. The FuelPod2, is a home use plug and play biodiesel producer. Read the rest of this entry »

AppleAuto: Who’s building the iCar?

According to leading German Business magazine ‘Capital’, U.S. computer giant Apple and German car maker Volkswagen (VW) could not agree yet on the production of the highly anticipated iCar. VW CEO Martin Winterkorn and Apple CEO Steve Jobs met last September to discuss options for creating an iCar, a small car made by Volkswagen equipped with hightech gadgets from Apple targeted for younger audiences. Volkswagen confirmed the talks.
As ‘Capital’ now reports, Apple is also talking to other manufacturers regarding the development of the iCar. ‘The project stands on shaky ground”, quotes Capital sources at Volkswagen. Well then, iIf it’s not gonna be an iBeetle, maybe an iMini, or iCivic. I’d personally prefer a Toyota iPrius: clean, smart, chic …

Huffy Bicycles: What a pretty damn cool green machine

Well, who is not on the green earth bandwagon; even the bicycle companies are. Green is the sensational new black that everyone loves to sport. Anything that carries this word stimulates a sense of good-doing for the earth and boosts your pride. Well here is the answer; for the time being we all think about Ethanol or Bio-diesel, but darn what the heck. Going green can be more outrageous fun. Even Willie Nelson needs to get on one of these and so does Leonardo DiCaprio. The Huffy Bicycles 98146 Green Machine 2 is steered from the rear wheels and has a distinguishing 20″ wheel in the front. Its all low-rider style kicks quite some butt. Aah yeah, you sure don’t like that fluorescent green, but that’s the only way that cars might notice you before you get run over by them. Read the rest of this entry »

Hybrid car sales slow down

PRius Overall, car sales in the U.S. dropped about three percent last month, which was not as bad as some analysts were guessing. The somewhat better news for HEV fans is that sales of hybrids dropped only 1.9 percent, according to number crunching by Green Car Congress. The number of hybrids sold in the U.S. (excluding GM hybrids) last month was 22,859. Most of those, 18,130 units, were Toyotas. You can probably guess that the Prius made up more than half of the overall hybrid sales, with 12,494 units sold in September, up more than 19 percent compared to last September. Most other hybrid models saw year-on-year sales numbers decline. Read the rest of this entry »

X2 Speed Run Car: Clean, silent - but terribly looking …

It’s great to have a car that doesn’t make noise, what say. When I get my car off and running, I feel good, coz it barely makes any noise, but what Nick Maslowski has up there is something that’s out to make people like me jealous. He could be sitting in it right next to you at the signal, and you might be busy yapping with him while you look for something in your bag, and lo, when you look back, he’s already gone, and darn, you didn’t hear a sound did you?

Well, if that sounded whacky enough to your ears, it’s going to be some time before this whackiness becomes a reality. For one, Nick is still busy testing the X2 Speed Run Car (that’s what it’s called) to achieve record speeds of 200 mph. Read the rest of this entry »

The Infant SUV: Who’s your daddy?

Well, when everyone is talking about green cars from the Fords to the Lamborghinis, what made you think that the good intentions of the little ones would be limited to using paper bags and mobile recycle bins? Okay, I’m sure this one is an addiction to them a little more than just going electric and not gas-guzzling, and its not like it will reduce any of the pollution from our environment. It simply won’t add to it.
The Infant SUV (yeah, hold your seats yet; you heard it right), is what the talk of the town is soon going to be. It’s claimed to be an all-terrain high performance vehicle which is a two-seater and has a break and accelerator that responds to the slightest touch to avoid the little ones from landing in an accident.
